FAZ May 18, 2019: “Green Wave on the Financial Market”
Under the heading “Green Wave on the Financial Market”, Markus Frühauf sheds light on the trend towards sustainability in the financial industry. Frühauf makes it clear at an early stage that sustainability must be taken into account: “There is no question that global warming and environmental destruction harm consumers, companies as well as states and change production conditions. That is why climate risks must be taken into account in every balance sheet”. However, he rightly points at often lacking substance: “Marketing strategists run the risk that more and more market participants will view the green wave on the financial market with skepticism. However, it is only on the basis of common standards that criteria can be developed with which banks and insurers can measure and map climate risks.” That’s how we see it as well. Our study on the sustainability reports of the DAX family comes to similar conclusions – across all industries.
